Work experience Pre-entry work experience is often desired by employers depending on the role as it demonstrates to them that you have the necessary skills to succeed. You could contact your local council and check what work placements they have available in the cleaning and environmental sector depending on your educational background. Spending time in the workplace will help you gain a greater understanding of the industry and enable you to make contacts with industry professionals. In addition, voluntary projects related to environmental conservation or recycling, such as local litter picking schemes will show employers that you’re motivated for your future career in the industry. Apprenticeships There are a number of apprenticeships available in the cleaning and environmental industry across the UK. An apprenticeship will give you the opportunity to get straight into a full-time position and working alongside experienced colleagues who may be able to offer some great advice on how to pursue your dream career path, and at the same time study towards a qualification that will give you the skills to prosper. What’s more is you’ll get paid a full salary!
