Hello, I Am Georgina Stowe

I have always known that university wasn't the right path for me, as I prefer gaining practical skills through hands on experience. By choosing an apprenticeship, I am not only gaining valuable skills while being paid, but I also appreciate the opportunity to engage in real world work situations. This approach allows me to apply what I learn with RHG directly to my job, making the learning process more relevant and impactful. The combination of studying and working simultaneously has been fulfilling, as it enables me to build a solid foundation for my future career while developing my knowledge in a practical environment.

Tell us more about your experience

The highlight of my career so far has been the personal and professional growth I’ve experienced. One of my proudest achievements has been building confidence in my presentation skills, which has helped me communicate my ideas more clearly and effectively. Networking with colleagues and industry professionals has expanded my connections and led to friendships that make my work environment even more enjoyable. I’ve also developed a deeper appreciation for the importance of health and safety in the workplace, which has made me passionate about contributing to a safe and supportive atmosphere for everyone. Overall, this apprenticeship has shaped me into a more independent and confident adult, ready to face future challenges with assurance.

Every day of my apprenticeship brings something new, which keeps the experience exciting and engaging. Some of the work I do is ongoing, helping me develop skills over time, while other tasks come with tight deadlines that bring urgency and focus. I enjoy the variety in my day-to-day responsibilities, as it encourages me to stay adaptable and open to new challenges. I also actively seek out opportunities to contribute to projects outside of my immediate role. This has allowed me to gain valuable experience in other departments, broadening my skill set and giving me a better understanding of the organisation as a whole.

One of the challenges I’ve faced during my apprenticeship was balancing college coursework with my job responsibilities. At times, managing both felt overwhelming, especially when deadlines overlapped with busy periods at work. I also struggled with asking for help, worried it might reflect poorly on me or inconvenience my colleagues. However, I’ve learned the value of seeking support when I need it. This shift in mindset has helped me grow both personally and academically, building my resilience and confidence.

I’m lucky to have a strong support network that includes my manager, apprenticeship coordinator, and colleagues. They’ve all been incredibly helpful—offering guidance, encouragement, and ensuring I have the resources I need to succeed. Their open and supportive approach has made it easy for me to ask questions or raise concerns, which has really boosted my confidence. This positive environment has enhanced my learning experience and made me feel like a truly valued member of the team.

I’ve had a one-to-one conversation with my manager about my career progression. While it’s unlikely there will be a permanent role available for me at the end of the apprenticeship, I saw this as an opportunity to explore other areas of the business. I asked for experience in different departments to help me figure out where I’d like to go next. My manager introduced me to key contacts and guided me toward departments where she felt I could make a strong contribution. I’ve already started working on a project in a new team, which has made me feel hopeful about finding the right fit elsewhere in the organisation.

If you’re considering your next step, I’d really recommend an apprenticeship—especially if you’re someone who isn’t quite sure which career path to follow. It gives you the chance to rotate through different departments, build a wide range of skills, and figure out what you enjoy. You’ll also gain real-world work experience, earn an income, and continue learning at the same time. It’s a valuable starting point that can set you on the right path for your future career.
