Hello, I Am Freya Woodhead
I decided to start an apprenticeship because I wanted to gain experience while studying.

As a P2P (Procure-to-Pay) Specialist, my role is primarily focused on processing invoices accurately and efficiently within the finance department. I’m responsible for ensuring that all invoices received by the business are reviewed, verified, and entered into the accounting system in a timely manner. My day typically starts by checking the shared email inbox or internal system where supplier invoices are submitted. I carefully review each invoice to confirm all the necessary information is present—such as the supplier name, invoice number, date, PO number (if applicable), and total amount due. Overall, my role ensures that the money the business owes is tracked, verified, and paid properly.
The highlight of my career so far has been the growth in my confidence and independence. When I first started, I was still learning the systems and adjusting to handling high volumes of invoices. Over time, I’ve become someone my team can count on to process work quickly, accurately, and consistently. One moment that stands out was during a particularly busy period when we were short-staffed. I took ownership of invoices for multiple regions, kept everything running smoothly, and helped avoid delays in payments to key suppliers. My manager recognised the effort I put in, and it really made me reflect on how far I’ve come. While it wasn’t one big project, it’s moments like these that have shown me the value of my role and how the small details I handle every day make a big impact. These experiences have helped me grow in confidence and take pride in my work.
One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced so far was travelling to Fareham to learn a completely new system and take on unfamiliar responsibilities. It was a big shift from what I was used to—I was out of my usual environment, surrounded by new people, and had to quickly adapt to different processes. It pushed me outside my comfort zone, but it also gave me the chance to grow both personally and professionally.
I feel really fortunate to have a strong support network around me—especially at work. I have some great friends in the office who are always there for advice, support, or just a laugh when things get overwhelming. Having those kinds of connections makes a huge difference and helps me feel supported every day.
If you’re considering an apprenticeship, my advice is: go for it. You’ll gain hands-on experience, earn a qualification, and get paid while you learn. It can be a challenge to juggle work, study, and everything else life throws at you—but the skills, confidence, and opportunities you gain are 100% worth it. Say yes to new experiences, even if they feel a little scary—that’s where real growth happens.
