What is a Degree Apprenticeship? 

Providing an alternative option to university, a degree apprenticeship offers you the best of both worlds by combining work with higher-level education, allowing you to achieve either a BA (Hons) or BSc (Hons) degree while working for an employer and gaining professional experience in the industry of your dreams. You also don’t pay any tuition fees; these will be covered by your employer.

On a degree apprenticeship, you’ll be expected to spend 20% of your week doing off-the-job training. This could be studying at university, online or an assessor might see you in your workplace. The exact balance between study and work will be decided between your university or college and the employer, however at least 30 hours of work must be completed each week. It’s important to note you’re a valued employee who is entitled to the same employee perks and holiday allowance as everyone else. This also means your role will come with responsibilities such as handling important processes or managing a team. The degree apprenticeship adventure lasts between 3 to 6 years, depending on the course and its level. It's like the ultimate combo of learning and earning, all wrapped up in a degree-shaped bow!

 

What are the entry requirements for a Degree Apprenticeship? 

So, here’s what you need to jump into a degree apprenticeship. The entry requirements are different depending on the level of the course. Most Level 6 degree apprenticeships ask for at least 5 GCSE’s at 9-4 (or A*- C on the old grading scale), including English and Maths. However there is also the option to progress into a degree apprenticeship from a lower-level apprenticeship, or another qualification like a T Level. You must be at least 18 years old to apply. But here's the twist – it's not just about grades! Employers are on the lookout for the personal qualities like communication skills, teamwork and passion for the industry you want to work in.
