Description

Main responsibilities:

  • Support the management of information requests under FOI, EIR and Data Protection legislation, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and undertake effective file management.
  • Assist with the preparation of information for release and respond to requests under FOI and EIR legislation, in accordance with statutory deadlines.
  • Conduct and co-ordinate in a professional manner the delivery of specific data protection queries and requests within an agreed timescale. Including where applicable, redacting relevant information and preparing information for release, following guidance, policy and procedures in line with data protection legislation.
  • Support and assist in the development, implementation, maintenance and reviewing of policies, systems and data to ensure compliance with all relevant information regimes and legislation, including cyber security.
  • To assist with information management processes such as third party and sharing agreements, retention and disposal, and access. Including having awareness of the legal requirements for information risk and compliance so service areas appreciate what measures they must have in place.
  • To support developing corporate information and records management policy and guidance and to evaluate compliance of service areas against appropriate codes of practice.
  • Monitor and review information security incidents, follow up and ensuring recommendations are implemented to help with the prevention of future incidents and escalate relevant incidents to your team and manager.
  • Provide data protection and security advice to service areas.
  • To help organise and develop content and delivery of appropriate training for staff and Councilors in Data Protection.
  • To ensure the Council’s website is updated by services in line with the Local Government Transparency Code and the Council’s Publication Scheme.

  • Proven computer literacy skills including the use of Office365 (Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneDrive, Sharepoint).
  • Good verbal and interpersonal skills. Can produce written communications which are clearly written and easy to understand
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the need for confidentiality and ability to think before you share information to ensure that confidentiality is maintained.
  • Self-motivated, demonstrate initiative and can work with minimal supervision when necessary.
  • Be able to demonstrate an understanding of what excellent customer care means and how that relates to quality service delivery within the service area. Are open-minded and non-judgmental and display patience in your dealings with others.
  • Take an enthusiastic and positive part in team projects, activities or initiatives. Support people and promote a sense of one team through relations with others.
  • Can demonstrate your ability to solve problems both independently and working with others and have an inquisitive mind.

  • 5 GCSE’s grade 9-4 or A to C, to include maths and English.
  • A levels or level 3 equivalent, or be able to demonstrate ability, e.g. work experience.

Data Protection and Information Governance Level 4 apprenticeship standard

  • An interest in reading, interpreting and applying legislation.
  • Have high standards and attend to details.
  • Organised and careful, taking a planned and systematic approach to tasks
  • Flexible and have a can-do attitude and approach to your work and the demands of the role. Can adapt to new situations, activities and processes.
  • Reliable, a good timekeeper and have evidence of a good attendance record.
  • Enthusiastic, tenacious and positive about working with other people.

Working week: Monday to Friday from 9:00am to 5:30pm
