Apprentices will gain hands-on experience in a variety of technologies, including coding languages such as Python, C#, and ABAP, among others. The Technology Service Operations team uses these technologies to enhance customer journeys, optimise network efficiency, and extract insights from data to inform key business decisions.

What Will the Apprenticeship Involve?

The two-year development programme consists of eight placement rotations, providing comprehensive exposure to service management.

Each apprentice’s journey is unique, but a typical structure could include:

  • Packaging & Build Management – Supporting application sequencing and migration to Windows 11.

Placement 3 – Transport Services (3 Months)

  • Support Asset Management Systems, such as Maximo and Ellipse.
  • Resolve incidents across London Underground (LU), Surface, and Rail for London Infrastructure (RFLI) Asset Management Applications.
  • Gain firsthand experience within key transport control centres.

Placement 4 – Payments Service (3 Months)

  • Station Assurance – Visiting TfL stations for payment system evaluations.
  • Bus Operations – Observing bus garage activities.

  • Service Transition Support – Assisting new and updated service transitions.
  • Agile Development Experience – Joining project development & sprint teams.

There is flexibility for apprentices to tailor placements to their interests while ensuring a solid foundation in Service Operations.

The first placement is recommended within Service Operations, as it provides an understanding of key Service Management areas.
