London Transport Museum (LTM), located in Covent Garden, showcases London’s transport heritage and plays a key role in engaging people in discussions about the city’s future.
The museum has worked closely with young people and local communities for over a decade, ensuring that it listens to and actively involves people in decision-making and the running of museum activities.
As an apprentice, this 18-month programme will support the Young People’s Skills and Communities team, focusing on two key programming strands:
- Communities Programme – Working with community partners in Covent Garden and Acton, opening access to museum spaces and resources. This includes tours, workshops, training, and collaborative projects with key local partners.
- Creative Careers Programme – Supporting young people seeking careers in the creative sector. This includes creative projects, developing opportunities for young freelancers, and running an apprenticeship network.
What Will the Apprenticeship Involve?
This apprenticeship supports the Young People’s Skills and Communities team in delivering inspiring learning activities for young Londoners and community partners. The role will help young people develop skills, knowledge, and confidence while ensuring the museum’s Acton Depot is a valuable resource for its local community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Planning & Delivering Creative Projects & Events – Supporting young people and community partners to develop skills and showcase their perspectives at the museum.
- Supporting Ongoing Programmes – Helping run events and activities that provide development opportunities for young people and improve community access to museum spaces.
- Managing Programme Administration – Including managing email inboxes, creating social media content, processing financial transactions, tracking expenditure, and organising resources for events.
- Building Relationships – Engaging with museum colleagues, youth organisations, cultural institutions, and community partners to create new opportunities for young people and audiences.
- Shaping the Museum’s Youth Initiatives – Providing input and advice to enhance programming for young Londoners.
- Collaborating with Other Young Professionals – Working as part of a team that includes another apprentice, six Young Freelancers, and the Khadija Saye Photography Fellow.
The goal of this apprenticeship is to equip participants with skills and experience for a successful career in the cultural or charity sector.

Entry Requirements
To be eligible for this apprenticeship, applicants must:
- Hold or be working towards at least 2 GCSEs (Grade A - C / Grade 4 and above)* or Functional Skills Level 2 in Maths and English.
- Not already hold or be working towards a qualification at the same or higher level in a related subject.
- Provide original certificates as proof of eligibility.
- Be at least 18 years old before the start date (September 2025).
- Pass an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, which will be arranged by the museum before starting the role.

Assessment Process

- Applicants have one week to complete assessments.
- Assessment centres for apprenticeship roles will take place from February to April.
- Most roles have only one assessment day (dates cannot be rescheduled).
- Assessments may be conducted in person or virtually, depending on the role.
