Welcome to the RPA
As the UK lockdown continues to ease through the planned government roadmap of lifting of restrictions there is great optimism that we can continue on the path towards “normality”. There is still a way to go before we get to that point and everybody must stay vigilant.
The apprentice programme and employers continue actively follow government guidelines and are taking all reasonable measures to support the minimisation of the spread of infection. Employers are posting new vacancies and we are still actively looking to fill the positions, so please search and apply for your ideal opportunity today.
The Apprenticeship programme is increasing its remotely delivered content and aligned our processes to minimise transmission risks in our training centres. We are adapting to changing circumstances and where employers are supportive, starting to ramp up apprentice training activity. Even though some apprentices are on furlough, government rules state that training can still continue, please speak with us or your employer for more information. We are here to help all potential candidates, existing apprentices and employers and we urge you to contact us to discuss your individual circumstances to allow us to give personalised advice.
About 1 in 3 people with coronavirus do not have symptoms but can still infect others. Getting tested regularly is the only way to know if you have the virus. If people test positive and self-isolate, it helps stop the virus spreading. We are supportive of this process and urge you to be supportive too. Anyone in England is now eligible for free and regular rapid lateral flow tests – these are for people who are not experiencing any of symptoms of coronavirus. For those with symptoms you need a different test. Please follow the link below for more advice and guidance on both types of test.

It’s important to us that all our staff, apprentices’ employers and candidates remain safe and if you require any specialist support, we urge you to look our apprentice support section lower down this page. If you have specific coronavirus medical questions please contact your GP or navigate to NHS website for expert advice.

Thank you for supporting us all in staying safe and please remember if you have any of the main symptoms of coronavirus:
You and anyone you live with should stay at home and not have visitors until you get your test result – only leave your home to have a test.
The Rural Payments Agency (RPA) is part of the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs, which is a Government department responsible for improving and protecting the environment. Everything we do at the RPA promotes world class farming and land management for the environment, food, and rural resilience. We lead through our values in everything we do.
We are a voice for farmers and land managers, we encourage sustainable and profitable farming, and are a delivery agency for Defra’s 25 Year Environment Plan.
If you join the RPA you will be part of a team of people who make payments to farmers, traders and land owners as well as supporting our financial and agricultural schemes to: support agriculture, deliver environmental sustainability, deliver economic growth, enable innovation and facilitate community activities.
Our Rural Development Programme focuses on ensuring we maintain the highest standards of:
We maintain the accuracy of approximately 2.5 million land parcels covering around 9 million hectares which equates to 93% of all rural land in England.
Our Environmental Stewardship scheme provides an additional £170 million for work undertaken to promote environmental outcomes in a range of habitats. Our Countryside Stewardship scheme provides over £129 million of financial reimbursement annually to farmers and landowners for work undertaken to promote environmental outcomes.
The Sustainable Farming Incentive scheme which will reward farmers for managing their land in an environmentally sustainable way is also being introduced.
We provide over £38 million of financial support each year to Fruit and Vegetables Producer Organisations covering all of the UK’s overall production. We trace animals to protect consumers by making sure that products in the human food chain are safe. Tracing animals helps to control and eradicate bovine diseases such as Bovine Tuberculosis, Bovine Viral Diarrhoea and foot and mouth diseases. We help over 14,500 schools across Great Britain to provide subsidised milk, yoghurt and yoghurt products to their pupils.
Its a really exciting time to join the RPA as there are lots of changes since we have left the EU and even more to do to support farmers and land managers. We want to put British farming at the forefront of environmental good practice, support net zero and enhance our beautiful natural environment. We will also drive the nation's sustainable recovery from the impacts of Covid-19, and support the Government’s agenda to level up and build back better for all.
We are focused on delivering our outcomes as well as have a collective commitment to how we work according to our values.
