We’re owned by the Dutch Railway, NS, and also operate in Germany. In the UK, we run buses through Abellio London as well as train services for ScotRail, Greater Anglia, Merseyrail, East Midlands and West Midlands rail networks.

Abellio Operations Apprenticeship Scheme: Putting the Train into Training

Welcome aboard this high-speed service to a career in transport with Abellio Group and the Institute of Rail Operators (IRO).

You will be based at one of our Operating Companies: Greater Anglia, East Midlands Railway, ScotRail, Merseyrail, West Midlands Trains.

Calling at:

  • Railway Business
  • Delivering Customer Services
  • Delivering Passenger Freight Services
  • Emergency and Incident Management
  • Managing Safety
  • Operational Planning and Timetabling
  • Rail and People Change
  • Performance Management and Rail Engineering 

All stops are part of the IRO rail modules which run alongside an ILM level 5 Operational Management programme.

Throughout the journey we’ll be offering a range of opportunities to learn about:

  • Planning (train planning), rostering and diagramming
  • Performance – causation, analysis, improvement
  • Train crew management
  • People management, including the legal bit, performance management, employee and industrial relations.

On arrival (at the end of the scheme), you’ll be ready to become one of our future Operations experts or a Functional Manager.
