I have now completed the Jisc graduate scheme and am delighted to have been taken on as a full-time salesforce developer. My job involves developing solutions on the salesforce CRM platform through code, according to business requirements. My favourite part of my new role is the ability to be a creative problem solver and work with almost all teams across the business. The graduate scheme has massively helped me in attaining this role due to the skills I've picked up from my three rotations. In my first rotation, I picked up systems administration skills as I helped configure the ITSM service desk that is used by our company, both internally and externally. In my second rotation, I was a product lead in an innovation team. The nature of work was vastly different which helped me develop my business/commercial skills. I lead projects and helped innovate solutions for the business through design thinking. Finally, I worked in HR systems where I picked up software development and testing skills.
Aside from the brief insight into my time on the graduate scheme, I've thoroughly enjoyed every rotation. I've been able to pick up a broad range of business & technology skills which undoubtedly helps me stand out. A graduate scheme is perfect for those who enjoy business and technology but may not be conclusive about the role they would like to end up in permanently. Graduate schemes allow you to rotate into multiple teams so that you really get a wholesome experience and understanding of what you enjoy best. Additionally, graduate schemes have great personal development structures, making sure you have opportunities to train and develop the skills you need. I would totally recommend these to anyone who has just graduated.
