  • What are your interests outside of work?
Outside of work I love to try new restaurants and cuisines with my favourite type of food being pan-Asian. I also love activities such as mini golf, axe throwing, bowling etc. My family and I are avid football fans having season tickets at Watford FC - being a Watford fan definitely comes with its ups and downs! I also love TV and films, any chick flick, cheesy content and I am there.

Hello, I Am Devika

I decided to do an Apprenticeship as the traditional mode of university wasn't the right fit. I need structure, a feeling of being valued and a clear support network which I felt was harder to achieve going down the University route. An apprenticeship wasn't on my radar in years 12 & 13, however, after some personal issues occurred post school I decided to explore that path. I can safely say that doing a degree apprenticeship is the best decision I have ever made!

Tell us more about your experience

Day to day I analyse data which aids in the improvement of the customer journey. This can be done through analysis of surveys using NPS scores to aid with that, reviewing consent capture for our direct marketing channels as well as looking after social media insights. As well as completing tasks set out by my job role, we also gain many other experiences with enrich our lives at BMW Group, for example, meet the CEO and MCs, Apprentice monthly syncs and newsletter, team bonding activities as well as many other fantastic opportunities.

My highlight so far has been meeting with CEO Mike Dennett as it allowed us as apprentices to feel valued by senior leadership. By doing this, we felt like an integral part of the BMW Group family.

The most challenging part of my career thus far has been presenting my findings to senior leadership as presenting isn't my strongest skill. However, as presenting has become more frequent my confidence in this skill has grown and will continue to grow.

My manager in particular has been a tremendous support, allowing me to take time during the working day if I have deadlines approaching as well as taking a general interest in my university work. The apprentices have a monthly catch up where we support each other and give help to others who may need it. From the training provider, we have a catch up every 8 weeks to ensure we are on the right track. From the company, we have a set Apprentice Manager who we can contact for any advice.

From discussions with my employer, we have discussed that throughout my apprenticeship I will shadow departments of interest in order to have a clearer insight into the field I want to go down post apprenticeship.

My words of advice to future apprentices are to make sure the field of job you are applying to fits your interests and skill set. Doing an apprenticeship, you have little interest in just because you earn some money isn't worth sacrificing your general happiness for.
