Outside of work, I am quite creative and enjoy drawing and painting! I also like going out with friends and family. I’m often at the gym and like to try new cooking recipes. I enjoy long walks and going out to eat! In my spare time, I love watching movies and binge-watching Netflix and Turkish shows. I love making TikToks on my account @tanseehaa – you might also see a bit more about my apprenticeship on there!

My role on a day-to-day basis entails a variety of different tasks. I work in the Digital App and Innovation Team within the Customer Success Unit. My role involves designing solutions for customers across different industries, such as Government or Education. Through this, the aim is to manage customer expectations and realise customer business objectives. As an apprentice, a lot of this consists of learning and understanding Power Platform and the different fundamentals in it.

I learn certain coding languages which are needed for building power apps, and I work with Power BI (which is used across many businesses), Power Virtual Agents and Power Automate. My day normally starts with admin work and team meetings. I’ll also do my apprenticeship work, which consists of studying different IT fundamentals. I normally play around with power apps and work on any personal projects. Usually, my day ends with either a meeting or a catch-up.

“I get to give back and take part in community projects to help others!”

One of the most exciting projects I’ve been a part of during my time at Microsoft was a Sustainability project. I worked alongside other EIC members from GSK and BP to create ideas for changes that could be made within our companies. It was a really great way to network, and I had the opportunity to hear from some amazing people who really make an impact.

My proudest moment with my company would have to be the mentoring opportunity I was given. This allowed me to provide individuals with valuable advice and knowledge, and even assist them through the apprenticeship or university process. As a mentor, I’ve learnt so much from my mentees, and I feel like it’s been a really rewarding opportunity. I love working for a company that gives back and permits its employees to do so too.

I decided to do an apprenticeship as I really enjoyed working and was excited to do so full-time as fast as I could. However, at the same time, I wanted to continue in further education as I enjoyed learning. I worked and studied throughout sixth form and wanted to continue in something similar. Growth mindset is one of Microsoft’s values that attracted me to them, as this really aligned with my own. I wanted to transfer what I learnt to my job, and of course, student loan debt was something I didn’t want. Having my education paid for while I worked was a plus!

“I knew there was another way for me to get the career I wanted without having to go to uni!”

My advice would be to research your desired career path thoroughly before deciding on one route. Have a look at all the options available to you. I applied for university and loads of different apprenticeships to keep my options open. When you’re searching for apprenticeships, you need to read the job description thoroughly, as well as look into the company you’re applying to. Make sure you know how to manage your time effectively as this will help both in the application process and in your apprenticeship.

Something I really struggled with when applying for apprenticeships was rejection, especially after a long interview process. This was a stressful period for me, but I became an expert in interviewing and realised it was my technique that was letting me down. So, I adopted a better approach and started preparing for interviews properly, using the correct structure when answering questions to prove my skills.

I even used GetMyFirstJob to apply for my apprenticeship! I heard about GetMyFirstJob through Instagram and saw how many great apprenticeship opportunities they had. I preferred applying through the site because of how clear the job descriptions were. They also had a much simpler interview process that made the whole thing much easier. I would definitely recommend applying through them!

“Working for Microsoft has been a great experience!”

I always feel supported by HR and my colleagues. Upon starting, I was given a buddy who I could go to for any help or questions. I have a mentor who helps me in my work and apprenticeship side of things, and my manager and I have regular catch-ups. I was also introduced to the EIC community, where I have opportunities to network and build support groups. There’s a wellbeing centre in the office so we can always access a professional to speak to.

My apprenticeship providers also have weekly wellbeing meetings that we can attend to discuss concerns or issues we have with work, our apprenticeship or in general. We can attend seminars and training on a variety of topics that we may need support with. I’ve picked up loads of skills while in my apprenticeship, from teamwork, time management, leadership, and assertiveness. I’ve learnt how to develop apps and create amazing interfaces. I can now make simple solutions and am currently working on a project that will help my whole team!

My manager and I have regular meetings, as well as a quarterly review, where I can discuss the direction I want to take my career in. They advise me on short-term targets that I can do to achieve my goals. At the end of my apprenticeship, I would like to start a degree-level apprenticeship or even become a full-time Customer Engineer!
