It can be a little strange to think about what your interests actually are, and we know what that's like! So when you start thinking about a potential career path it can be beneficial to consider some of the following questions:
Choosing a career in something that you have interest in is likely to make you far more successful because you want to work there. Work is where we spend most of our time; it is important that we are happy!
It is perfectly normal for you to have absolutely no idea what you want to do after school or college. If you find yourself feeling overwhelmed, strip things back to basics. Step back and evaluate what skills you have along with the values and beliefs you hold. You could even speak to friends and family about what they did to help them decide what to do for their career. You'll probably find a majority of people never planned to do the career they're currently doing!
Start thinking about where you see yourself in the next few years and try to set yourself goals to achieve over the next few years; this will ensure that you are staying on the right track and still making progress whilst you are deciding what you want to do. Your goals could be to attend local careers fairs, arrange work experience placements, achieve certain grades in your exams, earning a certain salary – whatever means the most to you!
