This interview will be used by your potential employers to ensure that you are the right candidate for the role, and also is useful for to find out if the job is what you’re looking for too.

Many people find the interview process daunting, and will often feel very anxious about the situation. This is perfectly natural, and these feelings can be eased with great preparation. The more prepared you are for your interview, the more likely you are to impress, succeed and be offered the position you’re after.

Tell us more about you.

This question covers all aspects of you as an individual. Your interviewers will be looking for details on your education and prior experience, but also more personal details like your hobbies or interests and the skills or the qualities that you possess. Don’t be afraid to open up a bit; talking about yourself will allow your potential employers to know if you’d make a good fit for their team.

What skills can you bring to the role?

You may have already detailed your skills when telling an interviewer about yourself. However, if this question is raised it’s important that you give details of your skills and personal attributes and link these to the role in which you are being interviewed for. Emphasising these aspects won’t hurt in impressing your employers. It can be helpful to look at the job description before your interview and make a note of the personal qualities they are looking for in a candidate so you can then relate this back to yourself.

What is your long-term career goal?

This is the perfect opportunity for you to demonstrate to an employer what it is that you are looking to gain from the Apprenticeship. If you can give your interviewers an indication of the position you wish to achieve within their organisation or even any additional training you wish to undergo, this will show your passion towards the kind of role and industry you’re applying to. It will also give them an insight into how they can support you in the future if you are successful in getting the role.

Why have you applied for an Apprenticeship?

This is your chance to share your knowledge of the Apprenticeship scheme and how you believe it will benefit you. When answering this question, you can highlight your interest in the progression and growth offered, as well as your preference to learn practically rather than in a classroom. A good point to make with this question is mentioning the valuable on-the-job experience that you will gain from doing an Apprenticeship and how this could aid your later development.

While you can never fully predict the questions that you’ll be asked in an interview; you can certainly prepare for some of the more common ones. It’s also important to remember that you can take notes into your interview with you, as these can come in very handy, particularly if you need some prompts.
