With incorporated or chartered engineer status, you could move into senior project management roles. You could also specialise in a particular engineering field, work in research or become a consultant. You could work overseas with British consulting firms, and for oil and mining companies. You could also work for international development and disaster relief agencies.
Steel erectors assemble the beams and girders that support the structure of buildings, stadiums, bridges and tunnels.
Domestic energy assessors (DEAs) work out the energy efficiency of domestic buildings like houses and flats.
Quantity surveyors oversee construction projects, managing risks and controlling costs.
Rural surveyors value the assets of farms and estates, advise clients on legal and tax issues, and plan and develop land use.
Building control officers make sure building regulations are followed.
Building site inspectors check the quality and safety of construction work.
The Project Controls Apprentice is primarily responsible for developing a practical understanding of the business, project management and project controls in line with the course plan of their apprenticeship qualification. It is expected they will be completely new to an office environment and will therefore need to focus on standard office skills and behaviours alongside the more technical and industry specific knowledge. As they progress they will be able to undertake limited project controls activities as delegated by their Project Controls Manager under supervision and guidance from more senior Project Controls staff.
