You could work in the community or at a health centre. Your working environment may be physically and emotionally demanding and you'll travel often.
With experience you could lead a team of nurses or become a community matron. You could also go into general health service management or become head of community nursing. You could move into health promotion, research or education. You may also be able to find work overseas, especially in developing countries.
Surgeons carry out operations and medical procedures on patients.
Emergency care assistants drive ambulances under emergency conditions and support paramedics.
Midwives support pregnant women and their babies before, during and after, childbirth.
Palliative care assistants provide specialist end of life care and support to patients and their families.
Pharmacy assistants serve customers and patients in chemists and hospital dispensaries.
Care workers help vulnerable people to manage their daily activities and to live as independently as possible.

There’s only so much you can learn when you just do a qualification. As an apprentice, you’ll also get to learn on the job – whether that’s designing amazing graphics, chopping vegetables, or building engines!
