Sterile services technicians clean and decontaminate equipment used in hospital operating theatres, clinics and wards.
You could do a college course that may give you an advantage when applying for trainee roles. Courses include:
You may need 5 GCSEs at grades 9 to 4 (A* to C), or equivalent, including English, maths and science for a Level 3 course, A-Level or T Level
You could start by taking a healthcare science Level 2 apprenticeship or higher apprenticeship for healthcare science associates. You'll usually need some GCSEs, usually including English and maths, or equivalent, for a Level 2 apprenticeship. You'll need 4 or 5 GCSEs at grades 9 to 4 (A* to C) and A Levels, or equivalent, for a higher apprenticeship.
Volunteering
You can get some work experience by volunteering in the NHS. This could help if you apply for an apprenticeship or a job.
You can apply directly for jobs if you've got some of the relevant skills and experience needed for this role. There are no set requirements but you'll usually need good literacy and numeracy skills. Some employers may ask for GCSEs or equivalent.

Textile machinery technicians maintain, service and repair machinery used in textiles manufacturing.
Clinical psychologists help people to deal with mental health issues, phobias and addiction.
Domestic appliance service engineers install and repair household items like washing machines, TVs and fridges.

Your apprenticeship will last 36 months, and successful apprentices will achieve a Water Industry Treatment Process Technician, Level: 3 (wastewater pathway) standard, endorsed by the Institute for Apprenticeships.You will need to be mobile in this role, well contribute up to 500 towards driving lessons and tests to help to get you on the road!
