In the more physical and contact sports, your career would usually be short. Many professionals finish their sporting career by the age of 35. After your career ends, you could stay involved in sport by moving into areas like coaching, refereeing, team management, sports journalism or sports centre work.
Lifeguards look after swimming areas, help swimmers to stay safe and carry out rescues in emergencies.
Sailing instructors teach people to sail yachts and boats.
Cycling coaches help riders develop their cycling skills.
Martial arts instructors teach martial arts like karate, jujitsu and judo.

You will be a permanent member of the Leisure Centre Team carrying out job roles such as General Assistant, Recreation Assistant, Concierge, Swimming Teacher & Fitness Instructor. The job roles that you are rotated for will be dependant on which qualifications you have achieved as well as the needs of the centre.

There’s only so much you can learn when you just do a qualification. As an apprentice, you’ll also get to learn on the job – whether that’s designing amazing graphics, chopping vegetables, or building engines!
