Job DescriptionWe are looking for Project Engineer Apprentices who will be supporting and assisting the Project Engineers in the delivery of a portfolio of small/medium-sized capital projects which includes the following activities.

Start date: 1st September 2025.

Base Location: Newbury STW, RG14 2AD.

Working hours: 36 hours per week.

Programme Length: 24 Months.

Training provider details: University College of Estate Management.

Qualification you will obtain: You will achieve Level 4 Construction Site Supervisor Standard, Certificate of Higher Education (CertHE) Construction & Built Environment.

Entry Requirements: A minimum of two GCSEs at grade 4 or above (A*-C), in Maths and English OR functional skills level 2 in Maths and English and 64 UCAS points.
Don’t worry if you don’t have your grades yet, if you are due to sit your exams this year, we still want to hear from you if your predicted grades meet our requirements.

Other immediate demands: A full UK driving licence (If using your vehicle, you will require business use on your insurance policy at your own cost)

Application Process:

Step two: You will be sent a short online assessment please make sure you are in a quiet environment and have given yourself enough time to complete it.

Step three: You will be sent a link to book a telephone screening call with a member of our Resourcing Team this is an opportunity for us to get to know you better and ask you some questions.

Step 4: If you are successful in our screening process you will be invited to an in-person assessment which will include a group exercise and a competency-based interview.

Assessment Centre Dates: Assessments will be held in April and you will be invited for a morning or afternoon session.

What you’ll be doing as an Apprentice Project Engineer- Level 4

  • Managing and delivering a portfolio of mechanical, electrical, civil, control and instrumentation projects with a value of up to £5 million per annum.
  • Working closely with Thames Water operations and our contractor supply chain to scope, specify and cost, quality solutions that are both fit for purpose and value for money.
  • Comply with Health and Safety requirements, ensuring that all projects built and designed comply with the Construction Design and Management Regulations (CDM).
  • Work collaboratively with delivery partners/contractors to ensure that schemes deliver on time, minimising the risk to the business.
  • Drafting, vetting and approving RAMS, pre-construction information, project plans, construction phase H&S plans (CPP) and commissioning plans.
  • Overseeing the commissioning and handover of the project to the operational client.
  • Ensuring appropriate training has been completed and that completion documents are available and handed over including test certificates and constructed drawings.

About the Apprenticeship programme
  • You will achieve Level 4 Construction Site Supervisor Standard, Certificate of Higher Education (CertHE) Construction & Built Environment.
  • As part of your apprenticeship programme, you’ll study with the University College of Estate Management 1 day a week to gain the theoretical background to your programme this is delivered virtually.
