About the role

This apprenticeship follows the Embedded Electronic Systems Design and Development Engineer (Degree) Standard, leading to roles such as designing and developing electronic circuits, devices, and systems.

Electronic Design Apprentices will begin their training at the Skills Academy, working on various electronic projects to build skills and knowledge in areas such as basic electronic theory, components, circuit design, circuit construction, and reporting. Following this, apprentices will undertake a series of 6-month placements at AWE, while attending college part-time to complete their HND.

Upon successful completion of the HND, apprentices will spend the final two years of the program in further placements across the business, while also working towards their Apprenticeship End Point Assessment (Degree phase).

Throughout your apprenticeship, you will attend lectures designed to enhance your understanding of electronic theory. Topics covered include:

  • Component recognition
  • Component characteristics
  • Circuit calculations
  • Semiconductor theory
  • Fault-finding techniques
  • Testing and measuring

This apprenticeship provides a comprehensive foundation in electronic design, preparing you for a dynamic and rewarding career.

These roles are governed by Health and Safety at Work Regulations and require all candidates to have an Occupational Health pre-employment medical held at AWE which follows the initial selection process. All candidates must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role and be willing and able to work in designated areas.
