Job Purpose:



To support the delivery of a high quality, customer focused IT Service to all University beneficiaries, 
as a member of the Digital Services, Desktop Support team. As an Apprentice IT Support Engineer,
you will be working alongside, and have the opportunity to learn from, experienced IT support 
engineers



Main Duties/Responsibilities:



Service Delivery Responsibilities:





  • Assisting to; deploy, support, and maintain the full life cycle of digital equipment 
    (hardware and software). This includes configuration and deployment of the 
    network connection, hardware, Operating Systems, and applications. Break/fix 
    support for hardware and software, removal, and secure disposal of equipment 
    when end of life. Digital equipment will include Desktop PCs, Laptops, Tablets, 
    Thin Clients, Printers and Multi-Function Devices.


  • Provide support for Audio Visual equipment.


  • Provide first line IT support and advice to all users within the University.


  • Diagnosing and fixing IT support issues under the supervision of experienced 
    Engineers.


  • Assisting the IT Helpdesk when required, providing first line telephone and email 
    support to all IT users.


  • Using remote software to resolve issues.


  • Maintaining comprehensive and timely case notes on the designated service 
    management system.




Person Specification: IT Support Engineer:





  • Competent in the use of a range of IT applications and packages.


  • Passion for IT and Technology


  • Have confidence to ask and respond to questions working with a team environment.


  • Organised in approach and ability to prioritise workload appropriately.


  • Ability to move IT equipment involving lifting on a regular basis.


  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively and confidently with enquiries from customers.


  • Ability to apply logic to solve problems. 




Entry Requirements:





  • 3 GCSEs (or equivalent) at grades 4+ (A-C) in any subject


  • GCSE Maths and English (or equivalents) at grades 3+ (D or above)


  • Prospective apprentices must not hold an existing qualification at the same or higher level as this apprenticeship is in a similar subject




You may also have a combination of qualifications and experience which demonstrate the minimum foundation needed for the programme. In this instance you could still be considered for the programme.



If you hold international equivalents of the above qualifications, at the time of your application you must be able to provide an official document that states how your international qualifications compare to the UK qualifications.
