Controlled Technology: Citizenship & Citizenship Verification:

This role will require access to information that is controlled for export under export control regulations, potentially under the U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations or Export Administration Regulations, the EU Dual Use Regulation, and/or other export control regulations. Role Overview

The Microsoft Threat Intelligence Center provides unique insight into threats to protect Microsoft and our customers. The Microsoft Threat Intelligence Center (MSTIC) has unique optics into end-to-end cyber attacks: they connect the dots and show the art of the possible. Their analysis is underpinned by a range of talented people and disciplines. This team is key to leveraging the wide range of threat intelligence signals Microsoft has, enabling protection at a global scale.

You will have the opportunity to track sophisticated adversaries and apply technical knowledge of adversary capabilities, infrastructure, and techniques to enhance detections and provide actionable intelligence to partner teams. You will partner closely with internal security teams as well as Microsoft’s product security research and engineering teams to ensure intelligence is used to best effect to protect Microsoft and customers.

You will identify new data sources for threat hunting to fill gaps and increase visibility. Security is truly a team sport, and you will understand the value of partnerships and information sharing to further investigations and threat hunting.


What will you be doing as an apprentice?

  • Providing threat intelligence to protect Microsoft and their customers.
  • Developing novel ways to derive intelligence value.
  • Accelerating analyst insights through cutting-edge malware and other analysis tooling run at cloud scale.
  • Building systems and pipelines to ensure that Microsoft's intelligence leads to global real-world protection impact.


Skills you will learn

  • Knowledge of the security/threat landscape.
  • Threat intelligence investigation techniques.
  • Network and host defence.
  • Understanding of cyber espionage motivations, tools, and infrastructure.
  • Attribution of activity to specific threat groups.
  • Assessing connections between established threat groups, and communicating attribution assessments to internal stakeholders and customers in a timely manner.
  • Finding new threat actor intrusions previously undetected by defence teams and tools.
  • Deep understanding of endpoint, cloud, network, and identity-based attacks and datasets.
  • Reverse engineering.
  • Azure DevOps or similar cloud-based development experience.
  • Development skills with C, C++, C#, and scripting languages (Python/PowerShell/JS).
  • Cloud (services, serverless, SQL/NOSQL).
  • Backend development.
  • Architecture and design for scalable, distributed systems.
  • Big data, data pipelines.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate the business need for security and technical improvements.

To be eligible for this apprenticeship, you must not have a degree.

However, you should have:

  • Obtained suitable level 3 qualifications by 31st August 2025 (3 A-levels with grades A*-C, BTEC Nationals, T Levels, or equivalent). A-levels should include Maths, Further Maths, Physics, Chemistry, or Computer Science.
  • Obtained 5 GCSEs, including Maths and English, with grades A*-C or 9-4 on the new grading system.

For this role, you will be working towards your Cyber Security Level 6 Degree Apprenticeship with Gloucestershire College.

This role offers an opportunity to gain practical, hands-on experience in cyber threat intelligence as part of a team with worldwide recognition. Intelligence assessment, malware analysis, security research, programme management, software engineering, large-scale data analysis, machine learning, and AI all provide an immense variety of challenges and opportunities as part of their work.

Please note: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft background check and Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
