“Each day on the Data Science Graduate Scheme is different. Some days involve troubleshooting tricky code, while others are about researching new modeling techniques or attending training courses. I may spend time in meetings, presenting my work to stakeholders, or simply have a quiet work-from-home day to tackle my to-do list. No two days are ever the same!”
Salary- £31,000, rising to £32,250 in the second year.

- Hybrid working allows a 50/50 split between office and home over a four-week period, subject to business requirements.

Entry Requirements- Minimum 2:1 in a highly numerate degree or a degree with significant computational and/or numerate components.

Job OverviewTfL generates vast amounts of data, from Oyster card taps to train temperature readings, offering rich opportunities for analysis. Data Scientists at TfL identify patterns in this data to generate actionable insights for customers and internal teams.

What Will I Be Doing?The two-year scheme includes four 6-month placements, providing exposure to various datasets, projects, and tools. You’ll deliver impactful work while honing your skills.
Potential Placements Include:Customer Analytics:
- Analyze tap-in/tap-out data, Wi-Fi network connections, and train weight sensors to optimize station retail, manage crowds, and forecast commuter behavior.
Operational Support:
- Enhance infrastructure reliability using smart condition monitoring and probabilistic failure models to optimize maintenance and investment plans.
Environment and Safety:
- Design safer junctions, reduce energy use, and address climate-related challenges using data analysis.
Strategic Modeling:
- Inform decisions on line closures, major investments, and route alterations through robust data modeling techniques.
In the second year, you can tailor placements to your interests.
