Description

Poplar Park Equestrian Centre is a family run centre set in the beautiful Suffolk countryside comprising of a livery yard, riding school and competition centre with around 60 horses and ponies of all shapes and sizes.

The owners are experience in a range of equine areas from stud work, competing, events organising as well a coaching/instructing.

The Livery side offers a range of packages for all and is perfect for those who compete with top class facilities on offer including BE course to intermediate level, Outdoor and indoor schools and showjumping and dressage facilities. For those that prefer the quieter life the centre offers exceptional hacking be that countryside and woodland routes, pub rides or even taking to the beach to ride on the sand and in the waves!

Poplar park also has two pony clubs taking children on the journey from riding and caring for small ponies through to horses as they grow bigger and stronger.


What are they looking for in an apprentice?

The position is open to either a level 2 or 3 candidate and would suit someone who is keen to develop their coaching/teaching skills. Full support and training will be given to develop your knowledge, understanding and behaviours towards your apprenticeship but in addition you will be supported and nurtured to develop coaching skills and abilities for those that have career aspirations to become a qualified instructor/coach through various routes such as the BHS/PC/BE/BS/BD/ ABRS to name a few.

They would also welcome someone who is keen to further their riding with plenty of opportunities to develop basic skills of for the more established rider to progress existing levels of competency further.

As a centre running British Eventing events as well as a range of other competitions, you will get an insight into event organisation and may be given opportunity to assist in ensuring these event are run successfully.

All staff members including apprentices will be expected to undertake usual yard duties, keeping the centre clean tidy and hazard free.

Working with horses is a year round job and so you will be expected to work when it is cold and wet in the winter and hot and sticky in the summer so we need an apprentices who is fully prepared to embrace working in the UK conditions!

They are not expecting a finished product but someone who is willing to learn and shows resilience - accepting that on the learning path mistakes will happen and to learn from them. Support and training from all the staff will be given to an apprentice so an ability to work as a team is a must but most importantly someone who is friendly and passionate about working with horses and in the equine world.

The apprenticeship is based on site in a practical setting so not lots of time spent in a classroom. If you did not gain your GCSE's in Maths and English we can support you to gain these whilst on programme.

Working hours will vary on a rota basis. Weekend day work will be required to cover the riding school and events.

The interview ill consist of a trial day working at the yard.

  • Some experience and knowledge of horses would be expected. Training will be provided but this position would not be suitable for someone who had no experience.

A GCSE or equivalent pass in English and maths is beneficial but not essential. If you do not have passes, we will support you in achieving your Functional Skills English and maths qualifications alongside your apprenticeship.

All training will be provided on site during your paid working hours. Your day to day mentoring will be with your employer, and a combination of online and in person monthly sessions will be held with your Haddon Training Trainer Coach.
