The Kyndryl Apprentice Programme

Your journey as a Kyndryl apprentice will start with an immersive learning programme, focused on building a core set of technical and business skills which you will use working on exciting projects with our flagship clients.

Joining us as part of our consult team on our Apprentice program starting in April, you will learn critical skills required for the development of cutting-edge products and services for our clients whilst completing a Digital Technology Solutions degree. As you progress through your degree programme, you will gain hands on experience rotating across a range of technology areas, before finally specialising in one of:

Software Engineering | Cyber Security Analyst | IT Cloud Consultant | Data Analyst

Software Engineering:

In this specialism you’ll become certified as a Software Engineering Technical Specialist, developing software solutions using multiple technologies across many domains during customer projects. You’ll learn a comprehensive set of skills to support your role including the gathering and analysing of customer requirements, designing, building, deploying and testing code and providing support for software solutions that we deploy for our customers. You’ll develop code in a variety of languages and learn how to use code management tools and will participate in code reviews during development projects. You will be responsible for applying sound software engineering principles across the development lifecycle and will collaborate closely with other technical experts in domains such as security and networking to ensure your software development adheres to best practice.

You will work in large collaborative teams including UX designers, Product Owners, software architects and other software developers to develop new code and to make changes to existing code bases. As you progress through your apprenticeship, we will look for you to develop leadership skills including supervising development work and leading more junior developers as our team grows.

Cyber security Analyst:

In this specialism you’ll become a certified Cyber Security Analyst, protecting Kyndryl's customers’ systems and networks from unauthorized access, use, disclosure, disruption, modification, or destruction. You'll gain knowledge and experience of the various tools used to defend against cyber threats like malware, ransomware, phishing attacks, and data breaches.

You'll exercise your interest in cyber security and information technology as you implement new cybersecurity systems and policies, monitor potential threats, and conduct proof-of-concepts (POCs) with new cybersecurity software. Collaborating in a team of experts, you'll enrich the organization’s knowledge of potential cyber threats and best practices and will develop optimised approaches for threat hunting.

You'll conduct penetration testing and threat assessments, respond to breaches, identify intrusions, research and evaluate threats, perform root cause analysis, and assist in creating security solutions. You'll also work in security innovation, creating and experimenting with new ideas.

As a Cyber Security Analyst, you'll define, implement, and maintain security products and systems. You'll analyse vulnerabilities, monitor security performance, propose improvements, and implement changes. You'll lead the technical implementation of security infrastructures, produce cost and timescale estimates, and identify risks. After implementation, you'll diagnose and resolve complex problems, engage with third parties to resolve issues, and complete cyber risk assessments

IT/Cloud Consultant:

In this specialism you’ll become a certified IT/Cloud Consultant at Kyndryl. You will gain skills to design, implement and optimise solutions we build for our customers on AWS, Azure and Google Cloud Platform. You will get hands on with many cloud-based services and work on projects to migrate and modernise existing workloads, and work on new cloud native applications using cloud compute, storage, networks and security.

You will learn and exercise skills in Platform Engineering, Infrastructure as Code and DevSecOps, and will work with a large team of cloud experts to develop repeatable approaches to building large and complex cloud based services. You’ll seamlessly integrate security, resilience and performance into your work, and you’ll document and communicate cloud-based architectures to colleagues and customers. Once implemented, you’ll monitor and troubleshoot cloud-based services to ensure performance and reliability and work to resolve problems as they emerge.

Cloud is a continuously evolving area of technology, and you will integrate new cloud services into projects we deliver for our customers. As you progress through your apprenticeship you will become a trusted advisor to our customers for cloud based projects and consulting, and you will have the opportunity to be the standard-bearer in a growing organisation and industry-leading brand for cloud services.

Data Analyst:

In this specialism you’ll become a certified Data Analyst at Kyndryl. You’ll unlock the power of data to drive strategic decisions and shape the future of our business. You’ll harness expertise in basic statistics, business fundamentals, and critical thinking to understand business problems, reveal trends and patterns hidden in complex data, and transform them into actionable insights.

You’ll love to solve problems using data, and you’ll work closely with cross functional teams to help understand how your expertise with data can help them achieve joint success. You’ll use leading software tools and technology to gather, prepare, analyse, visualise and communicate insights and narrative to colleagues and customers.

You’ll develop highly effective communication and collaboration skills and will become the go-to person for solving our customer’s business and technical issues using your expertise in data. You’ll love to help organise, interpret and communicate complex concepts using data in way that is useful to a business and your expertise gained in tools and techniques will be pivotal to our success with customers.

Last but not least, the fast-moving world on AI is built on the foundation of solid approaches to using data, and the skills you’ll learn and use will be critical to our customer’s success with AI technologies.

You will need to have a keen interest in developing a career in tech, have a growth mindset and be keen to drive your own personal and professional development. You’ll also need to be customer-focused and focused on ensuring customer success and satisfaction.

To apply for this programme, as a minimum requirement you must, have:

  • 104 UCAS points and GCSE English and maths (grade C or above), OR
  • A recognised and equivalent qualification (examinations and experience will be considered) OR
  • Completion of a level 3 apprenticeship/professional qualification in a relevant discipline
