Location: Newcastle (Recruiting from North East)

Work Pattern: Travelling Appointment (All travel and accommodation expenses will be covered by the business)


Role Mission:

As a Digital Energy Technical Apprentice, you will work in energy management and controls for Smart Buildings and Smart Electrical Infrastructure. You will contribute to the development and implementation of innovative technologies to optimise energy usage and promote sustainability. You will be part of a dynamic team, collaborating with experts from various disciplines to deliver impactful solutions for Schneider Electric's customers.

In addition to your academic studies and a recognised qualification, you will gain real-world experience, practical skills, and career-specific training. You will benefit from mentorship and networking opportunities with experienced professionals, with the potential for personal and professional growth in the workplace.


Key Responsibilities:

Project & Services Support: Assist in the planning, execution, and coordination of projects and services. Design, implement, and optimise a range of digital solutions to help customers to achieve their net-zero carbon sustainability targets. Work on building control systems, power distribution systems, energy monitoring systems, data analytics platforms, and energy management software.

Customer Engagement: Work with customers to understand their energy needs and develop solutions that support their sustainability goals and operational requirements.

Technical Support: Provide technical support and troubleshooting for digital energy solutions, ensuring smooth operation and addressing customer concerns.

Data Analysis: Collect, analyse, and interpret energy consumption data to identify patterns, trends, and opportunities for improvement.

Documentation & Reporting: Keep accurate records of project and service activities, data analysis, and customer interactions. Prepare reports and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations.

To be eligible for this apprenticeship, you must have:

  • 5 GCSEs (Grade 4/C or above), including Maths, English, and 1 STEM subject, or equivalent.
  • A Levels at BBC (112 UCAS points), including Maths (excluding General Studies), or a BTEC DDM Extended Diploma with a Maths unit, or T Levels with core areas consistent with engineering.
  • A demonstrable interest in engineering.


No previous experience is required.

Training Provider: Coventry University, Coventry - Block or Day Release (Training Providers could be subject to change based on availability of course or organisational needs).


During your apprenticeship, you will receive two types of training.


On-the-job training will be delivered by Schneider Electric, your employer. You’ll receive training and supervision to help you perform your role. This will include skills and knowledge that are outside of the apprenticeship but necessary for the job. In addition to ‘on-the-job’ training, they will support you in other ways to ensure your success. Types of support will include:

  • A comprehensive induction
  • Mentoring or regular one-to-one guidance
  • Social enrichment and networking opportunities
  • Performance reviews
  • Mental health and wellbeing support
  • Feedback opportunities

Off-the-job training will be provided by a carefully selected training provider during your normal working hours. You will spend at least 20% of your working hours (approximately 6 hours per week) completing ‘off-the-job’ training. This is protected time and a requirement for apprenticeship delivery. This training will teach you the knowledge, skills, and behaviours outlined in the apprenticeship standard, enabling you to achieve occupational competence.

Upon successful completion of your apprenticeship and depending on your performance, there may be an opportunity for you to transition into a permanent role at Schneider Electric!

  • A full UK driving license is required for this role, but candidates that are actively in the process of obtaining one will be considered.
