Role Mission:

As a Project Engineer Apprentice, you will assist in the planning, execution, and management of engineering projects and contracts, while developing technical expertise, building customer relationships, and driving operational excellence. Through dedicated mentorship, continuous learning, and a commitment to delivering innovative solutions, Schneider Electric aim to cultivate the next generation of skilled Project and Contract Engineers. This contributes to Schneider Electric's mission of advancing efficiency and sustainability in energy management and automation.

At the Leeds plant, Schneider Electric specialises in manufacturing and assembling electrical distribution and control equipment, including switchgear, transformers, and components that support energy management and automation solutions.


Key Responsibilities:

Order Management: Process and manage customer orders from receipt to dispatch, ensuring they are delivered on time, meet customer specifications, and stay within budget.

Customer & Department Liaison: Liaise with customers and factory departments on approvals, manufacturing, delivery, site work, and inspections.

Contract Documentation: Prepare and submit contract documentation (e.g., electrical schematics, manuals, risk assessments).

Contract Review: Review contract performance regularly to ensure deadlines and quality are met.

Progress Reporting: Provide feedback to the Team Manager on the progress of all contracts.

Work Progress Monitoring: Monitor work progress and report any issues or deviations for future bids.

Collaboration with Teams: Collaborate with tendering, production, and sales teams to manage contracts and meet customer requirements.

Essential

  • Fluency in English (written and verbal).

To be eligible for this apprenticeship, you must have:

  • 5 GCSEs (Grade 4/C or above), including Maths and English.
  • 2 A Levels at Grade A, including Maths and a Physical Science

OR

  • BTEC Level 3 Diploma (Grade DD) with A in A Level Mathematics unit

OR

  • BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma (Grade DD), including two mathematics units: 'Calculus to Solve Engineering Problems' and 'Further Engineering Mathematics'.


No previous experience is required.

Training Provider: The University of Warwick, Coventry - Block release (Training Providers could be subject to change based on availability of course or organisational needs).


During your apprenticeship, you will receive two types of training.


On-the-job training will be delivered by Schneider Electric, your employer. You’ll receive training and supervision to help you perform your role. This will include skills and knowledge that are outside of the apprenticeship but necessary for the job. In addition to ‘on-the-job’ training, they will support you in other ways to ensure your success. Types of support will include:

  • A comprehensive induction
  • Mentoring or regular one-to-one guidance
  • Social enrichment and networking opportunities
  • Performance reviews
  • Mental health and wellbeing support
  • Feedback opportunities

Off-the-job training will be provided by a carefully selected training provider during your normal working hours. You will spend at least 20% of your working hours (approximately 6 hours per week) completing ‘off-the-job’ training. This is protected time and a requirement for apprenticeship delivery. This training will teach you the knowledge, skills, and behaviours outlined in the apprenticeship standard, enabling you to achieve occupational competence.

Upon successful completion of your apprenticeship and depending on your performance, there may be an opportunity for you to transition into a permanent role at Schneider Electric!
