Role Mission:

As a Continuous Improvement Engineer Apprentice, you will contribute to Schneider Electric's mission of shaping the future of energy management and automation through efficient and sustainable manufacturing practices. You will actively engage in developing, optimising, and implementing manufacturing processes and systems. Your focus will be on embracing continuous improvement, fostering a culture of quality, and promoting sustainability. Through hands-on learning, you'll gain new skills, build relationships, and collaborate with cross-functional teams, all while maintaining a strong commitment to innovation.

At the Leeds plant, Schneider Electric specialises in manufacturing and assembling electrical distribution and control equipment, including switchgear, transformers, and components that support energy management and automation solutions.


Key Responsibilities:

Process & Improvement Management: Manage the process and continuous improvement within your unit to support customer satisfaction and quality.

Cross-Functional Team Management: Manage cross-functional teams, implement operational techniques, and monitor processes to eliminate causes of dissatisfaction.

Improvement Methodology Promotion: Promote the use of key improvement methodologies in the business.

Best Practice Sharing: Share and replicate best practices for continuous improvement.

To be eligible for this apprenticeship, you must have:

  • 5 GCSEs (Grade 4/C or above), including Maths, English, and a STEM-related subject
  • At least 2 A Levels at grade B or above, including a Maths-based subject and a STEM-related subject

OR

  • An Engineering BTEC Level 3 with at least 120 credits at DM level

OR

  • An EAL Diploma in an Engineering-based subject at D level

OR

  • Equivalent qualifications such as Technical Levels at DM or above.


No previous experience is required.

Training Provider: The University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC), Rotherham - Block Release (Training Providers could be subject to change based on availability of course or organisational needs).


During your apprenticeship, you will receive two types of training.


On-the-job training will be delivered by Schneider Electric, your employer. You’ll receive training and supervision to help you perform your role. This will include skills and knowledge that are outside of the apprenticeship but necessary for the job. In addition to ‘on-the-job’ training, they will support you in other ways to ensure your success. Types of support will include:

  • A comprehensive induction
  • Mentoring or regular one-to-one guidance
  • Social enrichment and networking opportunities
  • Performance reviews
  • Mental health and wellbeing support
  • Feedback opportunities

Off-the-job training will be provided by a carefully selected training provider during your normal working hours. You will spend at least 20% of your working hours (approximately 6 hours per week) completing ‘off-the-job’ training. This is protected time and a requirement for apprenticeship delivery. This training will teach you the knowledge, skills, and behaviours outlined in the apprenticeship standard, enabling you to achieve occupational competence.

Upon successful completion of your apprenticeship and depending on your performance, there may be an opportunity for you to transition into a permanent role at Schneider Electric!
