Sustainability is intrinsic to TfL’s work ethos, ensuring that the organisation operates in a sustainable way to protect and regenerate the natural world.

What Will You Be Doing?

Apprentices will have the opportunity to learn from experienced and qualified staff through various placements across the organisation, gaining a broad spectrum of knowledge with a hands-on approach to learning.

As a London Underground LV Cables Apprentice, individuals will work alongside competent teams to ensure that LV Cables Assets are maintained and delivered into service safely and efficiently. On completion of the apprenticeship, individuals will qualify as a Qualified Electrician and an LV Cable Jointer. Additionally, there will be an opportunity to work towards becoming an IRSE Licensed Electrical Traction Distribution Technician.

Working within the Power Delivery Unit of the Asset Performance Directorate of London Underground, the role will focus on maintaining, upgrading, and operating power assets. This will also include fault rectification and providing support to other units in relation to power assets.

After gaining valuable experience and knowledge within the LV Cable department, apprentices may choose to advance to a Team Leader role, and eventually to a Works Controller position. "The best thing was the ability to gain on-the-job experience and a degree at the same time. I had the option of going to university, however this opportunity was a no-brainer. Avoiding the fees and getting a degree – who would turn that down?"
