Job Description
Join us as an apprentice, and help be the energy behind the change.
Here at National Gas, we are at the forefront of the UK's move towards sustainable energy and achieving our Net Zero goals by 2050. Whilst our teams work behind the scenes to develop the future of our energy systems, you’ll be out with our engineers in the field delivering the natural gas demands of today.
What you’ll be doing
Are you ready to kick-start your career with hands-on experience and top-notch training? As a Project Management apprentice, you’ll be joining our Fleet Management team, supporting colleagues across the business as you develop to become a fully-fledged Fleet Professional. You'll split your time between learning on site, working alongside experts in your field, and attending dedicated training and college days. Whilst attending in-person sessions to study for essential qualifications, travel will become an exciting part of your day-to-day life on the job.
Our fleet management team oversee all fleet performance and fleet maintenance, to increase productivity and enable National Gas to run as smoothly as possible. Our fleet includes the management of cars (company cars and hires) and commercial vehicles such as vans, HGVs (heavy goods vehicles), specialist vehicles, and mobile plant (e.g. forklifts and trailers). Typically, this involves a range of functions such as vehicle servicing, maintenance & repair, operator licensing and compliance, supply chain management, accident management, vehicle telematics, driver management, fuel and charge card management, vehicle acquisition, and vehicle re-marketing.
As a Project Management Apprentice, you’ll contribute to the successful delivery of a project, ensuring its scope and benefits are achieved as planned. You’ll do this primarily by identifying, resourcing, scheduling, and monitoring the activities that need to happen in a certain sequence and timescale. You’ll learn how to:
• Use project monitoring and reporting techniques to track, interpret and report on performance.
• Manage resources through the project lifecycle.
• Manage and engage with stakeholders - influence and negotiate with others to create a positive outcome for the project.
• Communicate and support the project vision, to ensure buy in to the project objectives.
• Monitor and analyse project budgets.
• Apply change control processes to support the management of project scope.
• Prepare, monitor, and schedule activities that contribute to the delivery of the overall project schedule and objectives.
• Identify and monitor project risks and issues; and plan and implement responses to them.
• Apply relevant legislation, regulations, codes of practice, and ethical guidance where appropriate to their work.
• Use configuration management and change control to schedule and maintain projects.
We’ll work closely with your apprenticeship provider to review your progress at regular intervals, providing feedback and guiding your development. You’ll have a tailored personalised plan that ensures you have appropriate support and training. Most of your learning will be on the job, with off-the-job training and one-to-one tutoring.
About You

You’ll need:
