Description
Transport for London (TfL) is offering an exciting opportunity for apprentices to develop engineering skills while working on key assets that form the foundation of London’s transport system. Apprentices will be trained in the technical upkeep of the Woolwich Ferry and other terminal assets, ensuring their safe operation through the provision of technical and engineering support.
What the Role Involves
Every apprentice’s journey is unique, and this programme provides a broad range of learning experiences. Training will cover:
- General maintenance and repair of mechanical and marine equipment
- Monitoring, fault diagnostics, and resolution
- Electro-technology
- Hybrid systems
- Automated mooring systems
- Engineering and mechanical workshop skills
- Planned maintenance systems
- Emergency procedures
- Leadership skills

Career Progression

Training and Support
TfL’s award-winning teams will support apprentices through on-the-job practical experience and placements, as well as formal training, mentoring, and networking opportunities.
Throughout the programme, apprentices will receive one-to-one guidance from:
- Placement Manager – Oversees day-to-day management and supports professional development
- Scheme Sponsor – A senior manager providing technical and professional guidance
- Buddy – A more experienced apprentice or graduate offering peer support
- Development Adviser – Provides career coaching and helps guide progression within TfL

Minimum requirements: At least two GCSEs (or equivalent) at grades 4-9 (A-C),* including English and Maths.
Desirable: A GCSE in Science (grades 4-9 / A-C)* (or equivalent) is advantageous but not essential.
