The Role:

We are looking for a highly motivated apprentice who is interested in working in Financial Services and wishes to pursue a career as a Business Analyst within Investment & Operations Change.

Business analysts work closely with various departments, including management, Investments, Technology and others to understand their needs and gather requirements.

This role would be aligned to the public markets project portfolio which broadly means working on the delivery of projects related to investments which can be traded on the stock market, as opposed to investments in real estate or private markets for example. Current projects include setting M&G up to lend billions of pounds worth of investments to the market, addressing issues and challenges in our performance calculation and reporting process, changing the way we trade certain currencies, and enabling one of our overseas offices to buy and sell new types of investments.

These projects can have a variety of outcomes including making more revenue for the firm, cutting costs, enhancing our capability or simplifying how we operate. Ultimately we are looking to make M&G work more efficiently, ensure that we are competing fairly and honestly through adhering to the rules set up by the regulator and most importantly helping us give a better service our customers.

Key Responsibilities for this role:

The role forms part of the Public Markets team within Investments and Operations Change. The team plays a key role in evolving the business, staying competitive and efficient.

A Business Analyst Apprentice will support a wide range of initiatives across the team and will get involved in gathering data, producing pieces of analysis, inputting into business cases for new developments, support the adoption of new technology and work with the wider business to deliver change. You will be expected to :

  • Work alongside other team members to understand current business issues, performing data gathering, as required, to provide additional insights and help identify solutions.
  • Document and record elements of current process by shadowing existing users, reading of appropriate documentation to effectively understand how the process that is going to be replaced works.
  • Help prepare for workshops, engaging the attendees and ensuring the set up (room etc.).
  • Attend and capture notes at key meetings.
  • Support the write up of requirements (what users require the new system to deliver).
  • Support and document solution design, inputting into relevant templates to allow approval by governance forums.
  • When required, help develop a test approach and test the new system and ensure that it works according to the specification.
  • Support the senior BA, the project manager and the programme manager as directed to ensure successful delivery of team initiatives.
