As Technology Engineering Apprentices, individuals won’t be making tea or watching from the sidelines. They’ll be coding, testing, and building the digital tools that millions of people and businesses rely on every single day.
Four years. Big projects. Endless possibilities
This four-year programme is a launchpad into Software Engineering. Apprentices split their time between Edinburgh Napier University and Lloyds Banking Group — learning the theory in class and putting it straight to work on real-world projects.
Modules include:
Year 1 – Software design, maths for engineering, human-computer interaction, data science with Python, computer systems
Year 2 – Databases, object-oriented development, algorithms & data structures, web tech
Year 3 – Advanced web tech, engineering methods, applied projects
Year 4 – Software architecture, cyber security, and a big-impact honours project
By the end, apprentices graduate with a BSc (Hons) in Software Development and four years of exceptional hands-on experience.

Qualifications Required
- Nat 5 at grade A – C in both Maths and English
- 4 Highers at BBCC (including Maths or Computing)
- Predicted grades are fine, offers in this instance will be conditional
Training
Qualification – Apprentices will study for a BSc (Hons) in Software Development with Edinburgh Napier University.
Lloyds Banking Group will set apprentices up to succeed with:
- Blended learning that mixes university study with hands-on projects

- A mentor, a manager and a buddy (because even coders need a squad)
- A community of techies who speak fluent Python — and share their goals
Prospects
Lloyds Banking Group will cover apprentices’ degree fees and pay them a salary while they learn. By the end of the programme, they’ll walk away with:

Other Information
This programme is based in Edinburgh. Under Lloyds Banking Group’s hybrid working policy, apprentices will spend at least two days a week in the office and one day a week on campus at Edinburgh Napier University.
