Opportunity Details

The Tech Products & Operations teams at TfL focus on the technology behind millions of daily transactions on London’s transport network. The graduate scheme enables participants to become Junior Software Developers, specialising in Power Platform and MS Dynamics 365 CRM development, gaining experience on London’s most familiar and innovative systems. Participants join one of the city’s largest Agile technology departments, known for delivering high quality software using the latest platforms and tools, including Power Apps, Power Automate, C#, Azure Cloud, Dataverse, SharePoint, HTML/CSS/JavaScript, MS Dynamics 365 CRM, and Scrum.

Sustainability is intrinsic to TfL’s ethos, ensuring operations protect and regenerate the natural world.

The one-year development programme consists of initial training followed by a minimum of two placement rotations. The aim is to equip participants with a range of skills and experience for a successful career. Every graduate’s journey is unique.

Programme structure:

Initial training – 1 month:
Participants meet fellow graduates and apprentices, are introduced to the fundamentals of power apps, workflows, object-orientated C#, code testing, and cloud services. Training is led by current developers and Microsoft trainers.

Placement 1 – Power app development – 5 Months: Participants work in a team under the guidance of an experienced developer, developing bespoke power apps applications, refining/estimating user stories, testing functionality, and releasing applications. Exposure to Agile ways of working, Power Platform, Dataverse, Azure components (azure functions with C# .Net, service buses/queues), and CI/CD.

Placement 2 – Customer relationship management (CRM) – 6 Months: Participants work in a team under the guidance of an experienced developer on MS Dynamics 365 CRM, involved in environment setup, configurations, customisations, integrations, and deployments of CRM solutions. Azure DevOps is used for source control and deployment pipelines.

During the scheme, participants are encouraged to become TfL STEM Ambassadors and help with the schools’ outreach programme, delivering workshops to primary and secondary schools on coding & big data.
The first placement is fixed, and following placements are usually mutually agreed to ensure experience with a wide range of technologies, tools, and teams.
