You could become a shift supervisor of a production section or whole workshop. With further training, you may be able to work as an engineering technician. Your engineering craft skills will be useful in lots of different industries from aerospace to car manufacturing, so you may be able to specialise in one area or move between them, as your experience grows.
Engineering operatives use hand and machine tools to do jobs across different industries.
Production workers manufacture goods and parts in industries like pharmaceuticals, food and drink, construction and engineering.
Nuclear technicians maintain equipment and monitor radiation levels in nuclear power stations.
Sterile services technicians clean and decontaminate equipment used in hospital operating theatres, clinics and wards.
Chemical engineering technicians help to research, develop and manufacture plastics, medicines, foods, textiles and fuel.
Motor vehicle breakdown engineers help people whose vehicles have broken down.
This role is based within our Customer Connections Team. This is the department that connects customers such as data centres, battery storage projects, offshore wind farms, transport networks and solar farms to the electricity transmission network.
Your apprenticeship will last 48 months, and successful apprentices will achieve a Utilities Engineering Technician, Level: 3 standard, endorsed by the Institute for Apprenticeships.
