Railway signallers operate the signals and points on rail tracks to keep trains running safely and on time.
You would usually need to be working in the rail industry or be on a relevant placement to be able to complete this course. You'll usually need 2 or more GCSEs at grades 9 to 3 (A* to D), or equivalent, for a Level 2 course.
You'll usually need some GCSEs, usually including English and maths, or equivalent, for a Level 2 apprenticeship. You'll need 5 GCSEs at grades 9 to 4 (A* to C), or equivalent, including English and maths, for a Level 3 apprenticeship.

With experience, you could become a signalling supervisor or control room manager. With further training, you may be able to work as a signalling designer.

This role is based within our Customer Connections Team. This is the department that connects customers such as data centres, battery storage projects, offshore wind farms, transport networks and solar farms to the electricity transmission network.
Your apprenticeship will last 48 months, and successful apprentices will achieve a Utilities Engineering Technician, Level: 3 standard, endorsed by the Institute for Apprenticeships.
