Some universities will also accept non-science graduates. When you apply for a course in medicine, you could be asked to take the University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT) or BioMedical Admissions Test (BMAT). They test the skills you'll need on the course, like critical thinking, problem solving, data analysis, communication and scientific knowledge.

You could specialise in particular forms of surgery, for example dealing with burns or scarring. With experience, you could apply for senior or consultant roles, leading a team of surgeons or managing a hospital surgery department. You could also move into teaching and training student surgeons, or set up your own private practice, offering cosmetic procedures.
Sports physiotherapists diagnose and treat sports injuries.
Surgeons carry out operations and medical procedures on patients.
Dispensing opticians give advice on vision care, and supply glasses and contact lenses to suit their customers needs.
Pharmacy technicians prepare and supply medicines for prescriptions, under the supervision of a pharmacist.
Microbiologists study micro-organisms like bacteria, viruses, fungi and algae.
School nurses work with schools and families to improve the health and wellbeing of children and young people.
