Hospitality and food
Kitchen porters clean, wash up and prepare food to keep hotel, restaurant and hospital kitchens running smoothly.
There are no set requirements, but it might help if you take a college course, in cookery or hospitality, such as:
You'll usually need 2 or fewer GCSEs at grades 3 to 1 (D to G), or equivalent.
You could do a hospitality team member Level 2 apprenticeship. You'll usually need: some GCSEs, usually including English and maths, or equivalent.
You can apply directly for jobs. There are no set requirements, though some employers may ask for GCSEs at grades 9 to 2 (A* to E) in English and maths. Experience of working in a kitchen would be useful but is not essential.

With experience and training you could progress to kitchen assistant or chef.
Lunchtime supervisors work in primary, secondary and special schools, looking after children during the lunch break.
Chefs prepare, cook and present food in hotels, bars and restaurants.
Bakers make bread, cakes and pastries by hand and with machinery.
Housekeepers organise hotel staff to make sure that all the rooms are kept clean and tidy.
Butchers prepare and sell meat and poultry, and make meat products like sausages, burgers and pies.
Catering managers run the food service of organisations including restaurants, bars, schools, colleges and outside suppliers.
